Why use the desktop app?

⌨️

Global hotkey

Press Ctrl+L (Windows) or Cmd+L (Mac) from anywhere — any app, any window — to instantly capture a task. No switching tabs, no lost context.

📌

System tray

Lifr lives in your system tray. One click to check your next task or add something new. It's there when you need it, invisible when you don't.

📡

Offline-first

Tasks you add offline queue automatically and sync when you reconnect. Works on planes, in basements, and in spotty hotel WiFi.

🚫

No browser tab needed

Separate from your browser session — no tab to accidentally close, no memory fighting with your other apps, no "where did I put that tab?"

Windows SmartScreen warning

Because Lifr is an independent app from a small team, Windows SmartScreen will show a warning the first time you run the installer. This is expected — the app is safe.

To proceed:

  1. When you see "Windows protected your PC", click "More info"
  2. Click "Run anyway"
  3. Lifr will install and launch normally

We're working toward code signing certificates — this warning will disappear in a future release. If you have concerns, contact us and we'll walk you through it.

Automatic updates

The desktop app checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, you'll see a notification in the tray — click to update in the background. No manual reinstalls needed.
